During Easter, we celebrate both the most important event in the world as well as the most important miracle in the world.
Have you been anxious before? (Or are you anxious now?)
Have you ever felt yourself so caught that you see no way of escape or rescue?
Do you remember that feeling of complete hopelessness? (or are you feeling hopeless now?)
That is the trick of sin. It all seems fine in the beginning, even fun. The exhilaration of colouring outside the lines… but somewhere along the lines your realise that you might actually be stuck. But it’s still ok. You can still get out…
Except, now there is guilt. And new lies to cover the old lies. Until something breaks. Trapped. Broken relationships, broken lives… and you know the devil may have showed you the bottle, but you took the drink, and he may have introduced you to the girl, but you took it further… waking up in the morning, hating yourself for falling again.
Except… Easter happened.
When Christ gave up His life in exchange for ours, to clear our name from every sin attached, He broke the bonds.
He took every sin, every allegation, every transgression and nailed it to the cross.
Do you understand what it means? He took it. You carried it, and He took it from you. Imaging carrying a heavy stone. Imagine Jesus walking up to you and taking it from you. Your relief may be a little, or you may have been carrying that stone for a long time. That is what Friday was about… that is what Christ on the Cross did. He gave His life freely, in exchange for yours.
But not only that… He also cut the line. Nothing and no-one has the right or influence to force you to take more stones (not even you, yourself) or to pull you back into the life you were trapped in. That was Sunday. That is what the Resurrection was about. Taking control over every power and authority.
Now. There is only one thing that remains. We have to decide.
Do we accept the rescue? Do we go with Jesus… or back to our old ways, return to our captors, our jailers? We are completely free now, completely free to choose:
Alive with Christ
or
Dead in sin.
What will you choose?
