If you answered Judas, you would almost be right…
The answer is: all the disciples…
After the feeding of the 5,000, Jesus started teaching hard truths, but the people wanted food and miracles, not changed lives, so in John we read:
“From this time many of of His disciples turned back and no longer followed Him”
(John 6:66 NIV)
On the other hand, John finishes of His Gospel:
”Jesus did many other things as well. If everyone of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written”
(John 21:25 NIIV)
The Twelve, the main disciples were with Jesus pretty much every day, at every major event, seeing every miracle.
They knew Jesus.
And before He was arrested, they finally understood Who He was and more importantly, Why he has come…
“Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”
(John 16:29–30 NIV)
And then…?
They all ran away. They all deserted Jesus in the end.
Even at the actual crucifixion, the Bible only records 5 names:
Mary, Mary, Mary, Salome…and John.
(Mary the Mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Mary who was married to Cleophas, and Salome – Mother of James and John.)
But like with Judas, Jesus knew.
A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone.”
(John 16:32 NIV)
So, the disciples, hand picked by Jesus, taught in everything by Jesus Himself, spending days on end with Jesus and experiencing every miracle and every spiritual moment… failed Him.
They looked Him in the eye, and turned away.
What have you done worse?
What have you done worse that you cannot repent and come back to God for?
Jesus Prayed that Simon will not lose his Faith, even though he disowned Jesus. And then He gathered them back.
Jesus will gather you back as well.
Confess, Repent & Return… His arms are open!
