Philippians 1:1 (a slave to Christ)

Yesterday morning I received a very disappointing message, that really knocked the wind out of my sails.

Not so much because of the loss of a client (and income) but because I was so sure that I heard God’s voice in this matter.

So this morning I started on Philippians and right away got stuck.

A few times, Paul refers to himself as a slave of God or slave of Christ, and the Holy Spirit reminded me that it is written around my wrist: Beloved, Free, Slave.

When Paul calls himself a slave, it is in the context of God’s love and God’s will for his life. God’s purpose ABOVE my interests

Did I not submit the works of my hands, my abilities to God for His purposes? Did I not commit myself freely to serve? I was a slave to sin, set free and *chose* to become a slave to Christ…

Philippians 2:3–8 (CEB): Don’t do anything for selfish purposes, but with humility think of others as better than yourselves. 4 Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others. 5 Adopt the attitude that was in Christ Jesus:

6 Though he was in the form of God,

he did not consider being equal

with God something to exploit.

7 But he emptied himself

by taking the form of a slave

and by becoming like human beings.

When he found himself

in the form of a human,

8 he humbled himself by becoming

obedient to the point of death,

even death on a cross.

So, I put on my big boy pants and start again, seeking God’s will and Purpose.
