Deep cries out to Deep…

Half a glas of water with Psalm 42:5

My wife told me this morning that I was singing in my sleep. (I can believe it because I woke up in the night, still with a beautiful chorus repeating in my head.)

However, seeing that as toddlers, my kids ask me to stop singing to them… the jury is still out whether replacing my snoring with singing is actually an improvement…

I opened my bible this morning and my eye caught Psalm 42 (“…as a deer pants for streams of water…”) and in verse 8 it reads:

”By day the Lord directs His Love,
at night His song is with me – a prayer to the God of my Life.”
(Psalm 42:8 NIV)

I must be in the right place today 🙂

In this psalm, the sons of Korah teaches us about trust. It’s the first time I recognised the positive self talk!

They speak to their own soul. And ask why are they downcast? God has proven Himself, so put your hope in Him!

“Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?

But then declares and speaks to their Soul as if it is a third person:

”Put your hope in God,”

And then to put, not to fine a point on it, declares their own action further:

”for I will yet praise Him
my Saviour and my God!”
(Psalm 42:5 NIV)

Verse 7 speaks about “Deep calls to Deep” – My deep needs cries out to the depth of God’s love and care for me, a volume so incomprehensible that it will never run out. My deep despair is like cup of water against an ocean of love and care.

The realisation of exactly how much cares about my wellbeing, was overwhelming… even in my distress.

”I say to God my Rock
’Why have you forgotten me?’”
(Psalm 42:9 NIV)

But He hasn’t, and never will.

Be absolutely blessed!
