The word of God… what is it good for?

Without His revelation-light,

how would I ever detect the waywardness of my heart?

Lord, forgive my hidden flaws whenever you find them.

Psalm 19:12

I scrolled past this pic on instagram on an account called Lisas.Lovely.Mess which made me stop and come back, and then swipe over to my bible app for a better look.

Chapter 19 of the book of Psalms is a beautiful chapter which does two things: it bears witness of God, and then of His Word. But its the second part that can be the foreword of the bible.

In the first part, David kinda calls out those that do now believe… How can you not believe in God?

“God’s splendor is a tale that is told;

His testament is written in the stars.

Space itself speaks to His story every day

through the marvels of the heavens.”

Psalm 19:1

It is however about halfway through that he switches to the Word of God, bringing glory to God’s words in our lives. David was a lot more poetic than me… I am more powerpoint:

The Word of God…

⁃ Is perfect

⁃ Is trustworthy

⁃ It refreshes us

⁃ Teaches us

⁃ Is radiant

⁃ Is right

⁃ Is pure

⁃ Is reliable

⁃ Endures forever

⁃ Is righteous

⁃ Is worth more than gold

⁃ Is sweeter than honey

…and it is a guiding light and revelation light…

What is really amazing is that when he wrote this, there was no “bible” like we have today. Paul didn’t yet write to the Corinthians, and Peter didn’t motivate the churches yet. It was a thousand years before Christ would feed 5,000 and walk on water.

But to this day it remains true, for every word spoken by God. From before David and forever going forward.

Which makes me think about how I receive word today? Are we just completely overwhelmed by messages the whole day long, that we need apps and books to help us _get through the bible in 7 and a half minutes per day_? Out of the 1,440 minutes I have today, how much will I choose to spend to find “the rarest treasures” that is worth more than Gold?

And then, what will I do today with the words that was spoken to me directly? Luke 1:37 says “Not one promise from God is empty of power, for nothing is impossible with God!”

The word of God is filled with the Power of God to fulfill every promised and every decree God has made. Like a seed has power to grow, built in, God’s words spoken over our lives has the power built in.

Time to plant the seed!
