What Got You Here Won’t Get You There by Marshall Goldsmith
“How Successful People Become Even More Successful”
Much more focussed on business and leadership, I found this book very entertaining.
There are obviously things that are very focussed on the world and worldly matters, but every now and again I run into one of his core principles and realise that to accomplish ultimate business success, he has to follow biblical principles!
Now, please note that this is not a Christian Business Guide! Very much not! and the author focuses a lot on habits and behaviours to make you successful in the eyes of the world, but it does my heart good to see him promote (in his own words) things like Servant Leadership (prioritizing the well-being of teams and organisations, having strong relationships, and helping others succeed)
Goldsmith pushes hard for Empathy and Respect, (he sees it more as interpersonal skills to get better in business) Listening and showing empathy is high on his agenda, along with personal and sincere Humility. Acknowledging your own flaws and working on improving yourself as a better person for society (and therefor, your team and your business) through Self-Reflection (Finding your personal flaws and identifying your points of personal growth)
I often run into people “accusing” me (or us Christians) of acting or thinking that we are the only ones with morals and ethics. This is off course not true, but it often comes naturally for us, because it is sort of built into Christianity. Therefore, I can just smile when a key principle that a successful business leader must possess is Accountability.
Get the book, it’s a good book, it has valuable information in it, and enjoy the Christian principles as you come accross them!
