Are you ready to move quickly?

1 Peter 1:13 in the Passion Translation says: “… So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action!

This got stuck in my head… prepare your hearts and minds because something is coming. Hearts… emotions in check? Empathy ready, are you rested enough not to simply respond but respond from a Jesus perspective? That is where the mind comes in – Is my thinking right? Can I control my thoughts, my anger, frustration, jealousy and arrogance?

Peter used a common idiom of the time, that would roughly translate to a mix of “fasten your seatbelts!” or “roll up your sleeves” but the actual wording was “Gird up the loins of your mind”

Now when someone said to you to “gird up”, it meant you were tucking in your robe into your belt so that you can move fast, and move unobstructed.

Get your emotions in check, get your thinking right, and focus on God and the purpose He has for you today. Because something is coming that will take all of your concentration and willpower

“So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you. As God’s obedient children, never again shape your lives by the desires that you followed when you didn’t know better.”
