How much celebration is enough?

I honestly did not think we would win. And then not just win, or win by the skin of our teeth, but to crush our opponents like this… for the last two days, life in South Africa has been ruled by the celebration of diversity #bettertogether #worldcup2019 #proudlysouthafrican – A celebration of what was accomplished!

Its good. For the next few months, or at least weeks, people will sit around boardroom tables and rather look for solutions than argue about whose fault it is, the #bettertogether hashtag still fresh in their heads.

People who celebrate seem to have a lot more goodwill and it just seemed fitting that this morning I was reading 1 Peter 1:3

Celebrate with praises the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has shown us extravagant mercy…”

My friend Redge is teaching me a lot about celebrating with praise. Put your hands in the air, put the music loud and dance like king David. And why shouldn’t we? The mercy shown us is beyond measure… and it is not just “a mercy” – a one time thing… it is a fountain of mercy that has given us a new life! A FOUNTAIN!!! It keeps on flowing, it keeps on giving.

Yesterday I was watching this omie walk in to church. He had a bounce in his step and was already heavy into the praise and worship by the time he got to his seat. It wasn’t the beat that got him – he was moving to a dance he has been dancing for a while. The switch has been flipped a long time ago.

He was not praising God because he was grateful.

*He was praising God because He is God* !

Celebrate with praises the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Celebrate with praise. Just because of who He is… not because of what He has done for us…

I think this is what Matthews 11:29 means when it tells us to simply join our lives to Christ and learn Christ’s ways. Don’t just stand on the side and cheer, join your life to Christ and learn His ways…

“Celebrate with praises the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has shown us his extravagant mercy. For his fountain of mercy has given us a new life—we are reborn to experience a living, energetic hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…” 1 Peter 1:3
