While my head is in the spiritual warfare of Ephesians 6, I came across a most beautiful reference…
The author spoke about the “shield of Faith” and that Paul was probably referencing Psalm 91:4 & 5
“…His massive arms are wrapped around you, protecting you. You can run under his covering of majesty and hide. His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm…”
(verse 4)
Verse 5 speaks to what He is keeping me safe from. The old Hebrew says at night he keeps us safe from “pachad” ( פַחַד ) overwhelming fear, dread, panic & terror. And by day, “khayts” ( חֵץ ) literally the arrows from the archers.
But the beauty of this piece… we are grown men. Tough, strong, forged. We can change a tire and drive a manual gearbox. Where do we go when fear strikes us?
The picture I have in my head is me wrapping my arms around my kids. Their safe space. Their shield, their protector, their fortress. When they run to me, I envelope them.
But…
…they are also completely oblivious to the protection provided when they thought they didn’t need it.
The Shield of Faith is not only about the level of my faith but also about God’s unlimted Faithfulness.
The fact is…. My battle gear is not all that great, but because of God… it is all I need for today, and every day…
So when the battle gets tough, Man of God, Warrior husband, Frontline Father… step into the arms of your Father. Let Him wrap you up and replenish your faith.
You don’t have to try and go it alone.
