In John 4 we are introduced to the Woman at the well.
The picture is of a woman shunned by her people. Ashamed of her life and hiding from all interaction with her people.
Furthermore, the Samaritans as a group were Israelites that disobeyed the word of God and intermarried with neighbouring tribes. They picked up the customs and religions and was considered dangerously unclean by the Jews of the day.
But then… the woman was even hiding from her own disobedient and “sinful” people with questionable morals. It’s like a serial killer looking at you and a saying “you are too much”
But what happens when Jesus comes into her life? Her past, her history, her sins and actions that was condemning her every day the sun burnt her face, became her authority.
Her testimony simply confirmed her old identity. And now the message: from this point on I will worship God in Spirit and In Truth and point people to Jesus.
The woman at the well became the first evangelist (and orthodox history suggest she and her family never stopped)
