If the Son has set you free, you are truly free indeed!

So this is a controversial topic, and I am not sure why, because it is something Jesus handled 2,000 years ago, when the religious leaders of the day kept on insisting that “more” was needed than what God required of us.

A few core statements:

First, most of the following are the words and actions of Jesus Himself.

Second, The death and crucification of Jesus was critical and required.

And lastly:

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
(John 14:6 NIV)

Jesus is the final authority and last word on the subject.

We are living in a broken world and easily trapped in sin. In fact, Jesus Himself says that we are slaves to sin

“Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”
(John 8:34 NIV)

We can see what is Jesus’s relationship with sin and sinners (The lady at the well, Zacheus the tax collector, the woman caught in adultery) – Leave your life of sin. Simple, uncomplicated, a free-will choice.

1 John 1:9  says, that if we confess our sins, He WILL Forgive and Purify us, and if we sin again, Jesus Christ will advocate for us on our behalf by the Father. (1 John2:1) because He is the atoning sacrifice.

That is it…

Jesus says:

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
(John 8:3132 NIV)

What is the truth that Jesus is referring to?

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
(John 8:36 NIV)

Why can we believe it and why can Jesus say that? Because Jesus was sent by GOD. It is literally for this purpose that Jesus came, was crucified, and rose from the dead… to redeem us through Him.

“Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me.
(John 8:42 NIV)

So we refer back to how Jesus deals with Sin:

Stop doing it: “Sin no more.”

Walk away from it: “Leave your life of sin”

A free will choice.

How is this possible? Because Jesus ends up taking the consequences of sin on Himself, so that we can be free to have a relationship with God the Father again! God is Light and in Him there is no Darkness (1 John 1:5) so our sin doesn’t sit well with God, but because of Jesus we now can enter into God’s throne room. (Remember in the Old Testament… A priest had a rope tied to his body in case he walked into the Holy of Holies, into the presence of God, with sin, he would die and they needed a way to drag him out again)  God doesn’t abide sin. Period. But now He sees us through Jesus.

So Sin… what to do? Jesus says: stop doing it, John says, Repent. Acts says, repent and return (turn back) to God.

Again… it is all your choice. (It fits with God’s character and how he deals with people from Adam & Eve, Through the Old Testament, The life of Jesus and up to today.

Now… The best lies are the ones that live so close to the truth that it’s very difficult to distinguish where truth ends and lies are injected.

Jesus tells us about the devil. He is a murderer, he kills and seeks death. Not just Death of an unsaved life, but also death of dreams, death of relationships, death of purpose. Death of Faith.

“He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
(John 8:44 NIV)

But the devil, who has made lies an art form, has been able to capture the minds of the modern Christian. John teaches us from the words of Jesus:

“For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.”
(1 John 2:16 NIV)

But the devil has managed to convince us that it is not our sin. It is a generational sin, or curse or a soul tie out of history.

“It is not your fault!”, it is because of someone else that you are in this predicament! (And off course… who wants to admit to their stuff ups if they don’t have to?)

Result: No real repentance

(how do you repent for something you supposedly do not have control over?!)

And no walking away from the Sin.

No stopping the sinful actions (because again, it’s not your sins, its cause is due to someone else’s actions…)

Is this not the most beautiful lie? This sin continues, the person is helpless and the relationship with God the Father never gets fully restored.

Now… you can disagree with me, but then you have to agree that:

1. The bible is not the truth

Not one, but two Old Testament prophets declare God’s decree:

“The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.”
(Ezekiel 18:20 NIV)

2. Jesus’s own words is a lie

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
(John 8:36 NIV)

And off course, 3. Jesus is not enough. Like the Religious leaders in the bible insisted, more is required than the life an death of Jesus to set us free…

The Bible teaches us to repent and change.

Somehow we started to believe an extra biblical teaching that we do not need to repent to be free. We have the excuses that we need to break soul ties, we need to break generational curses, we need to be delivered from demonic influences.

Make no mistake: Sin has repercussions. An iligitimate pregnancy doesn’t go away because you repented, someone killed by a drunk driver doesn’t come back to life. A father drinking and gambling away the children’s inheritance, still has an impact on the financial wellbeing of the next and the following generation.

But when we repent, our sins stop be our condemnation and it becomes our testimony. Death becomes Life!

“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony;
(Revelation 12:11 NIV)

And the repercussions of sin becomes an opportunity and a tool through which God creates restoration instead of a constant reminder of our past and a condemnation.

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
(John 9:3 NIV)

… and finally, the spiritual laws that govern our lives are also set in submission to, and according to the full and complete actions of Jesus Christ:

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
(Romans 8:1-2 NIV)

Do not be fooled. There will always be one more thing to be delivered from, another soul-tie that needs to be broken and an unknown generational curse to be shattered. Never freedom except for a few hours after the ceremony, as you float on the spiritual high of an altered reality experience. Jesus is apparently not enough. The one that all things were created through (John 1) needs the help of lay-counsellor and “deliverance” expert to ensure your freedom from sin.

Compare the evangelism testimony:

I used to be anxious and depressed. I looked for comfort in bottle after bottle of alcohol, but then Jesus stepped in and freed me from my addiction. Now when I feel the world is getting too much I reach for Jesus and His Holy Spirit brings me peace and comfort and strength to face my day! God did a miracle in my life… if He could do one in yours, what would you want it to be?

Versus:

I used to be anxious and depressed. I looked for comfort in bottle after bottle of alcohol, but then Jesus stepped in and freed me from my addiction. However, I later found out that my grandfather was an alcoholic and I went for deliverance from the spirit of alcoholism… unfortunately later heard my great grandmother was in the occult so we had to break a soul tie to try and fix my anxiety and depression. Now when I drink too much, I know it’s because of the generational curse that is not completely broken so even if I wanted to stop, I couldn’t. I will go for deliverance again on Sunday.

(With respect… this is not the Jesus I know.)

Soul Link – What is it?

A Soul Link is a New Age belief that finds its roots in Hindu mysticism and Greek mythology. A soul link is often called a twin flame outside Christianity. A soul link is supposedly felt by two people who are spiritually connected. Being “linked” indicates that their souls originated from the same spiritual source before assuming physical form. Belief in soul links is tied to reincarnation, as many people believe that the two halves of a soul link will find each other over and over again as they are reincarnated.

Some people point to 1 Samuel 18:1 as mentioning a soul link: “The soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David” (KJV). However, this verse is simply saying, in an idiomatic way, that Jonathan and David were “bound together in close friendship” (NET). They were committed to each other, but there was no mystical union of souls.

The concept of a soul link or soul mate comes from Plato, from his work The Symposium.

Is a Soul Link in the Bible?

The closest thing to the wordly concept of a  “soul link” is the one we can enjoy with our Creator. God has fashioned man to desire a relationship with Him, and when we are “linked” to Him in our souls, we feel satisfied (Psalm 1; John 3:29; John 7:38; John 16:22). Appart from that, it is not a biblical concept

Soul Tie – What is it?

The phrase “soul ties” is not in the Bible; rather, the idea of soul ties is a man-made speculation which some teachers superimpose onto Scripture in an attempt to explain certain human behaviors. Soul ties are said to be connections from one person’s soul to (or into) another person’s soul, a concept that has no basis in Scripture!

Is a Soul Tie in the Bible?

The closest similar concept to a “Soul Tie” in the Bible is when God describes the process of a Man and a Woman becoming one “being” through marriage.

So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Mathew 19:6 NIV)

If you, as a Christian, believe the concept of a “Soul Tie” exists and was created by God, then you are going against God’s decree that the tie should not be seperated…
