We will easily pray that “God’s Kingdom come” because its so big… it doesn’t depend on us, really… other people with have to really get themselves sorted for that to happen…
Sometimes we are emotionaly connected or convicted by a message or an event and we will bring it closer to home, asking _“God… what is your will for my life”
But again, I think it’s a bit big. It’s a good question, but until we are ready, I don’t think God will reveal too much. Maybe just enough to get us excited!
See.. it’s generally not how things work… we have to crawl, then walk, then run…
So… maybe we should just start a bit smaller, until we have better discernment? Maybe the question should’nt be so big? Maybe it should just be: What is your will for today? Or even smaller: what is your will for this meeting?
Paul breaks it open:
We cannot discern God’s will be cause we are stuck in the world’s mindset
Modern Psychology suggests that many of our decision makin processes are formed by our environment and the society that surrounds us.
So Paul has this figured out a looong time ago…
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
(Romans 12:2 NIV)
Paul is asking us to stop thinking like the world. What does the world suggest for this schoolboy rugby game? Win at all costs? Watch the ref when he is not looking, break a rule or at least bend them as far as we can. Intimidate, damage, hurt. Anything as long as we win?
Now, as adults in the boardroom… how do we play the game?
Paul says that we cannot discern God’s will until we change the way we think. By the renewing of our mind, by considering what God did for us, BEFORE we decide how we are going to handle a situation or make a decision.
If we stop thinking in worldly terms…
