My daughter has a snake. You can trust a snake to be a snake. They are very trustworthy that way!
The snake has never hurt anyone… but be sure to know, it’s probably only because it decided you are too big to eat. You can trust a snake to be a snake!
Trust, Faith & Faithfulness?
So I was thinking about a verse in the bible I read recently. Paul writes about the Jews in Romans Chapter 3, that some of them are not so great at being Jews. They didn’t follow the Mosaic laws so well. And then He says, that that is ok, because it doesn’t influence God’s Faithfulness?
Which made me think about God’s Character…
“But what if some were unfaithful to their divine calling? Does their unbelief weaken God’s faithfulness? Absolutely Not!”
(Romans 3:3-4 TPT)
If I ask my kids why they won’t play with a friend or a cousin, it is usually something in the line of “because he did this or that…”
And the Jews had a Golden Rule: Treat people as they treat you (you actually find that in most cultures as an unspoken rule) but Jesus said no…
Treat people as you want to be treated.
“Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
(Luke 6:31 NIV)
In other words… You never change because of the actions of others.
We must copy Jesus who in turn, copied His Father.
Which brings up the Faithfulness of God. God remains Faithful, whether we are or not. He keeps His promises whether we kept ours… or not…
Even the Fruit of the Spirit includes:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, FAITHFULNESS, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
(Galatians 5:22–23 NIV)
Think about this for a second… Anything God says, will be done. Period.
Ok, that is great. Everything He promised will “one day” become real… but that is actually just the Cherry on top. Think of the actual implication. The day you committed to Christ. The day you repented and turned your face to God (regardless of what has happened since) He started a good work in you. A renewal of you.
Sometimes it goes slow, because we kick against it. And sometimes it looks like it’s actually going backwards, but it isn’t. God is Faithful to complete it. Regardless of how we treat Him, or the process… or even ourselves.
He who, began a Good Work in me, will be Faithful to complete it!
“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 1:6 NIV)
This does not give us permission to stuff around, but it does give us peace of mind, that, again, no matter what, God is, and will remain Faithful to be God. He will be our Father, and Jesus will be our saviour and the Holy Spirit will be our Guide, Helper and Power to overcome!
God’s Character is beautiful! We can base our Faith on Him, because He is Faithfully, Unchangeable!
