I am coming up on a big event and although its an event that traditionally does very well, I am worried about it.
I prayed about it, and every day I remind God about it.
But then, earlier in the week I came across a reference to anxiety and what it says in First Peter 5
It starts with a reference to Humility:
“If you bow low in God’s awesome presence, he will eventually exalt you as you leave the timing in his hands.”
(1 Peter 5:6 TPT)
…and then the bones of the matter:
”Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you.”
(1 Peter 5:7 TPT)
But then Peter immediately changes tack and warns us to be alert because our enemy, the devil, is roaming around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour…
Why does he do that?
All I can figure is that the devil is out to convince you to take the things you just laid at God’s feet, back onto your shoulders:
“I humbly lay this trouble at your feet…never mind, I will handle it!“
Do you really think… you can do it better than God?
Because, isn’t that what we are saying? Hold my beer, Jesus, I will handle this.
…or
“Don’t worry God, I will get marketing to sort out this problem.”
…or
“Nevermind, I will sort it with the money from the next job, the next sale, or the next paycheck…”
And you know what? When you take it back, God gives it back…
(But then we complain that we prayed so much about it, but it still went wrong…)
So maybe we must take Peter’s words to heart? Resist the devil and have Faith…
“Take a decisive stand against him and resist his every attack with strong, vigorous faith.”
(1 Peter 5:9 TPT)
…and leave your worries with God!
