Go two miles.

Roman Soldier from behind with Matthew 5:41 superimposed on the image

Last night we were watching “the Chosen” with the kids, and in the episode, Roman soldiers compelled Jesus and the disciples to carry their gear (as was the law in the time)

Now it is not something that was recorded in the bible, but the screenwriters used their creativity to show two things that just broke me:

First. Jesus walks the talk.

During the sermon on the Mount Jesus taught:

“If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.”
(Matthew 5:41 NIV)

Not only did they get a chance to show the character of Jesus, but also exactly what that meant historically, and in context.

But then… it also forced me to ask the question. How does this apply to my life? Am I going the “extra mile”?

I wondered how to check. The first thought that came up was: When was the last time anyone told me: “that’s unfair!”  What did I do?

Conviction.

In the story. Jesus drives the nail home. He says to the Roman Soldier that if anybody gives you trouble, tell them, we offered.

Forgiveness, compassion, acts of service and setting free from all guilt, all in one go… By making a simple choice. WOW!

That is power!

Be absolutely blessed, and share your blessing with someone today!
