When the tire hits the tar, the banana goes pear shaped and the literal monkey pooh hits the fan… my cup got bumped and it wasn’t coffee that spilled out.
We already know from Psalms that God is actively pursuing us with Love and Goodness, and that knowing this, that the All Powerful God, Creator of the universe (and of me), is in control and has me as a priority in His life.
”For your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life.”
(Psalm 23:6 TPT)
That is good. It is comforting to know God’s got my back. But why?! And more importantly, what now?
Paul touches on this in his first letter to the Corinthians. The context is different, but the application proves true. His advice:
Don’t Judge, wait on the Lord to reveal.
We are facing many issues in the world right now, and the world demands that you choose a side. Whether it is a war in Ukraine or Israel, or the political battles of both foreign and domestic politicians… the world wants you to pick a side.
Socio-economic impacts of corruption and crime makes us angry, and then off course, the things happening at work and at home…
But Paul says wait… wait on the Lord.
“Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart.”
(1 Corinthians 4:5 NIV)
Paul is speaking in a specific context, but the principles remains. The Lord will reveal to you what you need to know to make good decisions and take the right actions and at the right time so that your actions are not premature.
The Passion Translation says it so beautifully:
“So resist the temptation to pronounce premature judgment on anything before the appointed time when all will be fully revealed.”
(1 Corinthians 4:5 TPT)
A little test:
Why did I hit the pothole, get a flat, and ended up being late for work?
It may be the fault of the municipality for not filling the pothole.
It may be the fault of the driver that changed lanes and pushed me a bit too far left.
It may be my fault for pressing the snooze button one too many times and then rushing to work.
It might even be the fault of the tire guy that did a rush job when I finally replaced my tires a few weeks ago…
I will probably be angry and frustrated and possibly… ok probably… be using some colourful language and speaking words of anger towards all of those people, (even if just in my mind,) right up to the point where I arrive at the scene of a massive accident that occurred minutes before…
If it was you, will you, like me, let the cries of “Why ME?!” turn to “GOD IS GOOD!” ??? I bet you also would! And probably thank God out loud for keeping you safe?
Would you have said the same if the accident was cleaned up and you don’t realise what transpired just moments before? Or would you still have been angry?
Nothing changed in the scenario except that God did not reveal the whole truth to us in the second scenario. Our life was still saved, our families still spared grief, pain and anguish… we just don’t know that it happened.
So both my dad and Paul is right. Don’t react, don’t judge. Wait, wait for the other shoe to drop, and even then, remember that there is always another side and more to the story.
So whatever happens to you today…
Wait…
…Wait on the LORD
God has got our back, and he is an active part of our lives. He will reveal to us what we need and need to know for the next part… Actively wait on God!
Be blessed today, and be a blessing to others!
