So why would I fear the future?

”For your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life.”
(Psalm 23:6 TPT)

I saw a video clip last night where a young lady’s voiceover said that she struggles from anxiety, and the only thing that calms her down is Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing…”

Now, I am pretty sure she never read the verse in a historical and cultural context, and that is fine, because sometimes, God is like a Father with a child on His lap that sings to us to calm us down, to give us peace…

But as I was reading Psalm 23 for myself again, verse 6 got stuck.

The Goodness and Love of God is pursuing me…? God’s Goodness is chasing me down? He is Eternal Love and Grace and Care is surrounding me?

How can I be anxious about tomorrow? Whatever I feel now, God’s Goodness is right here to replace my own dark thoughts, to guide my decisions. God’s love will not let me drown in my fear of the unknown, but will take me by the hand and walk with me.

But can I trust God?

David says: I did, and God never left my side. The evidence suggests we can and should…

Surely your goodness and love will follow me… all the days of my life”
(Psalm 23:6 NIV)
