The Storm and the House… and the other House.

Yesterday, there was a storm… and my roof leaked. A nuisance, some damage, some unhappiness and time spent… but overall all is still well.

The thing about a storm is that it catches you off guard.

My friend Sergei was also thinking about storms this week and published a really thoughtful newsletter.

“But everyone who hears my teaching and does not apply it to his life can be compared to a foolish man who built his house on sand.”
(Mathew 7:26 TPT)

Sergei thinks we are missing the point… and after some thought, I agree.

Who was this example given to? Jesus says: “…Everyone who hears my teaching …”

Both the builders built their “houses” – Their ministries, their churches, their religious (dare I say Christian?) lives and their families. Their Christian friendship groups and outreaches. Both houses flourished and grew, but only one survived.

Why?

Both were going after what is right and good and uplifting? But only one had the foundation to hold it up.

It wasn’t the house that was built that testified about the builder, but the foundation when the storm came.

…When it rained and rained and the flood came, with wind and waves beating upon his house, it collapsed and was swept away.”
(Matthew 7:27 TPT)

It was such a breath of relief. I am not sending you out because you are not chosen / good enough / broken / doesn’t have a good enough testimony / or whatever lie the devil might whisper in your ear… It is simply that your foundation needs to be stronger for what I intend for you…

I need your ministry to stand in the storm… Let’s build more… let us build deeper… It is not the house, it is the foundation that is important. It is not the size of the tree, but how deep the roots go…

…Which of these two builders will you be?
(Luke 6:49 TPT)
