Ok… that is a bit of clickbait!
We were watching the new movie from Sony Entertainment, Journey to Bethlehem (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFXcEWalXBI) About Mary’s Story.
It has taken a few liberties in presentation and has the BEST King Herod (Antonio Banderas!) and although it’s a musical, and although it is biblically not 100% on the timeline, it did make me think…
Mary was one lucky girl!
An Angel of the Lord came to her and told her exactly what her purpose in life will be! How Lucky is that?!
The tone of Luke’s account of the visit from the angel and then when she gets to Elizabeth, where John “leaps for joy” in Elizabeth’s belly. Her words to Mary: “…Blessed are you among women…!” is all positive…
The picture is a beautiful one… but I wonder if it is all true?
In the story (not depicted in the bible) Joseph has to have a talk with his parents about the situation, and Mary had to convince her parents that she was still “pure”. I wonder what that day was like?
I wonder if Mary didn’t doubt at times, and had to shout out loud the words of the Angel just to remind herself of the truth of her calling.
I wonder how long it took her parents to come around and say… She did tell the truth?
I wonder if Joseph’s family ever fully accepted her while Jesus was growing up?
Did she ever doubt? Did she ever stumble? While walking for four days, 8 hours a day, from Nazareth to Bethlem… did she perhaps grumble just a little bit? I would…
“I am carrying The King, the saviour of the world… The Messiah for heaven’s sake! Should it really be this hard?!
I don’t think Mary had an easy life. But I do think she became fierce. I think she held on to the word of God until she could hold on to God Himself, and later in the bible, her life is a bit of a testimony of perseverance.
Living out our purpose is not and never was going to be simple. But it will be the most valuable thing we can do. ”Follow Me” said Jesus, “…and I will make you…”
It is beautiful to me that Jesus never asked anyone to first become something, before He could or would use them.
Be blessed today!
