Have you seen those movies where…?

Unlike real life, we seem to love being bamboozled by movies!

You’ve seen them…?

The bank robbery or casino heist, where the bad guys, that is the good guys (or just not so bad as the other bad guys?) have this elaborate plan where everything must work just perfectly, and in the end… after 90 minutes of nailbiting, it looks like they are caught, befuddled, stuck, in an impossible situation…. but no!

They drive off into the sunset, with the perfect plan executed!
(…and as they are driving the director pulls back the curtain and shows us glimpses of things and actions and people that we never knew existed, part of the plan and playing their parts perfectly!)

And I wonder… Is this how God works?

”Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!”
(Psalm 37:5 TPT)

To some extent, I do think we only see to the edge of our own horizon. We see the hands of the watch move, but the watchmaker understands the mechanism behind the face that makes it move… (but this is still just a speck of knowledge compared to what the One knows that created time!)

The New King James maybe instructs better:

Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
(Psalm 37:5 NKJV)

It is not so much a standing around, and waiting for God to move, as it is an active submission of our day and week to God, a commitment to make our choices in a way that seeks first God’s Kingdom, and not our own comfort or even our own understanding.

When we are in this place, in this habit of submission, we can move around like Paul and be directed to where we are supposed to be.

”But the humble of heart will inherit every promise and enjoy abundant peace.”
(Psalm 37:11 TPT)
