Every now and again I read Psalms and think to myself that this could have been someone complaining on Twitter or Facebook…
”…Where are the dependable, principled ones? They’re a vanishing breed!
Everyone lies, everyone flatters, and everyone deceives. Nothing but empty talk, smooth talk, and double-talk…”
(Psalm 12:1-2 TPT)
Oddly enough, the reason I was in Psalms was that I was looking for encouragement.
Psalm 12:6 is highlighted in my bible:
”…For every word Yahweh speaks is sure and reliable.
His truth is tested, found to be flawless, and ever faithful.
It’s as pure as silver refined seven times in a crucible of clay…”
…but it was in the next verse that God spoke to me:
“Lord, you will keep us safe,
out of the reach of the wicked.”
As I read this Psalm, God’s voice came to me and required that I pay attention. I don’t think David and I have the same idea of what “safe” means here…
David was in 8 or 9 major battles as far as I can quickly tell from bible events (some commentaries refer to David’s 66 battles…) Regardless. This doesn’t seem very “safe” – David seemed to walk into danger and battles and confrontations with fair regularity.
Safe does not mean you do not go into battle.
Safe doesn’t even mean you will return from battle untouched or unscarred.
Safe means you will return, ready to defend again, ready for battle again… but better equipped.
Knowing more, Trusting more, with a deeper connection to God.
I must not look for safe spaces for myself and my children. I must strengthen myself (and them) to do battle constantly and trust in the Father to take us through.
