I have started reading a book by Lenya Heitzig called “Reload Love” (can recommend… but keep the Kleenex close!) I got the book because of the byline. I walked passed it, was pulled back and read “Transforming bullets to beauty and Battlegrounds to Playgrounds”
In the foreword, she quotes Mark 11, where Jesus heals a blind man.
This particular piece have often baffled me… Short Recap: A blind beggar called Timai, son of Timai, was hosting for Jesus as he walked by. The crowds tried to silence him (bad crowd!), but Jesus called for him (Good Jesus!) so they brought him to Jesus and then, the most baffling statement Jesus has ever made in verse 51:
Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
Sorry… WHAT?!
What did Jesus think he was going to say? I have this pain in my wrist from begging the whole day, could you please look at that?
(But isn’t that actually what we do? We come to ATM Jesus and ask Him for this-&-that when the BIG thing is so very obvious? Asking for pain pills and a plaster when there is clearly an arrow stuck in your side? So maybe Jesus wasn’t that far off?)
But I digress.
“…Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The man replied, “My Master, please, let me see again!”
Jesus responded, “Your faith heals you. Go in peace, with your sight restored.”
(Mark 10:51-52, TPT)
Please let me see Again!
Let me see… let me SEE … let ME see…
Is this not the call from every Christian? The one we are most afraid of asking?
LET ME SEE!
Father, Jesus, Saviour, Holy Spirit… Let me see what you have called me for… Let me see my purpose!
But what if it is something I don’t want to do? What if it is something I won’t like doing? What if it is hard? What if it is sad? What if it is stinky? What if… I am not capable?
So we rather not ask… because I don’t want to disappoint Jesus, and I suppose, seeing that we are being honest, I don’t want to disappoint myself.
“…Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
(Matthew 11:29-30)
Today I ask Jesus: “Let me see… Please let me see!”
