I don’t think a week goes by without at least one person asking: “What is God’s will for my life?”
Now, I do not believe God is hiding that information from you… I actually think the Holy Spirit is buzzing with excitement and sharing glimpses with you wherever you go… but I do believe we are not always listening or paying attention. Maybe the noise from the world is just shouting too loud?
… or simply… I do not want to hear because it doesn’t match up with what the ”world” is expecting of me, and I quite like what I see in the world… nice cars, nice bodies, nice food and nice houses with very few limitations (except in the fine print?)
Paul has given me very good advice in the past, so his 5-point plan in Romans 12 to discern God’s will for your life will probably be spot on.
Maybe I should turn it into PowerPoint slides?
Slide #1
Surrender yourself to God.
You paid for me, my life was forfeit but you purchased it in Love. I give it to you
Slide #2
Live in holiness.
Do the things God likes. Live the Fruits of the Spirit. Speak and act in love. Build up, uplift, grow – this too is worship!
Slide #3
Stop copying the world.
The culture of the world around you is simply not good. It’s all Gains! Get better! A better kinder, gentler me? Nooo!! A better body! A better partner! A better house! Once you have enough, then, out of your excess, you will be able to give and help others – what a beautifully crafted lie… because you will never have “enough”
Slide #4
Let your mind be shaped by the Holy Spirit
Only with the outside input from the Word of God can you discern between the twisted truths that are the lies of the world and the simple, uncomplicated Godly truth. Let the Holy Spirit teach you how to think. Ask Him. Read His words.
Slide #5
Results!! Living a perfect life!
NOT Perfect according to the world, but a beautiful, and satisfying life. With the ability to drown out the noise and hear God’s will as you live in tune with Him. Looking up, instead of looking around. Checking in to see if your neighbour is ok, instead of checking them out.
“Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? To surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.”
