I wonder if Jesus ever did a facepalm?

So about halfway through the 6th chapter of John, we come across the part of the story where Jesus walks on water.

I wonder how that day went… Jesus just fed over 5,000 people and then ducked because He knew they wanted to take Him and make Him king by force. Jesus went up the mountain alone, and his disciples went to the shore. And at about sunset decided to cross the lake.

Now I wonder if Jesus came to the shoreline, and went “I can’t believe they are trying to do this by themselves… again?!”

Seriously though… I have a few questions… why did Jesus decide to walk on water? At the end of the passage it says they were “instantly transported to the other side” (v21) He could just have transported himself onto the boat. Or did he think it would freak out the disciples more than a man walking on water in a storm? Did He call up the storm so that He could catch up to the disciples? (Seeing that they should have been across the water hours ago, but was still only halfway?)

Also… if that was me on the boat, and I saw a man walking up like that, you bet I would be rowing like a madman. Slight panic (as did the disciples)

So here’s the thing…

Jesus says to them “Don’t be afraid. You know who I Am” (v20)

He redirected their vision. He did not tell them not to worry because He will “fix it”, He told them to have faith because He was there. Whether the storm goes away, or the storm stays, Jesus was there, so everything will be O.K.
