We are living in interesting times. Its been 3 months or so since people started paying attention to the COVID-19 pandemic and the response is more or less the same in every country where it crosses a border. Complete and utter denial switching over to full-on panic and fear.
So this morning I felt led to read a bit of Titus… but I only got to verse 3. The context of this letter from Paul is to show Titus how to choose elders, and what a “good follower” of Christ would look like. But he starts of with something profound:
“… I’m writing you to further the faith of God’s chosen ones and lead them to the full knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness, which rests on the hope of eternal life. God, who never lies, has promised us this before time began. In his own time he unveiled his word through the preaching of the gospel, which was entrusted to me by the command of God our Life Giver…”
(Titus 1:1-3)
I am going to do what every biblical scholar will slap me for, and that is to simply take parts of a sentence from part of a passage and build a message for me, according to what I want to hear… I will justify myself by saying that sometimes God speaks to me through words in a bible or on a milk carton, especially when I struggle to keep my focus on Him as the world for my attention.
So here goes:
I’m writing you to further the faith of God’s chosen ones
Pay attention sunshine… I am going to help you out
God our Life Giver
This is who I Am!
No matter what we think or believe, not a bird falls from the sky without God being in control. Our lives is in God’s hands, through prosperity and drought, but right now, HE is our LIFE GIVER!
God, who never lies, has promised us
And that is the thing…
God. Never. Lies.
Did God not speak over your life? Why are you panicking? Did God not reveal to you a calling? Why are you running from website to website, following stats and reading articles about why kiwi’s are the miracle cure? Did God not give you a purpose?
… then why are you acting like God forgot… ?
God never lies, and He has promised us when He called us. THIS is your calling, THIS is your purpose. You will come home when you are done.
Does this mean I should act like this worldwide issue is nothing? Like it is just another day? Absolutely not. Plan, prepare, be ready… but DO NOT plan out of fear, plan with God’s calling on your life in the front and centre of your mind, Sean. Do not speak in worldly terms. Write God’s revealed purpose on your hands and remind yourself constantly about the promises made by a God that DOES. NOT. LIE!
See what is in front of you through God’s eyes and ask Him to let the Holy Spirit reveal to you your path through the chaos.
What is your Purpose? What is your Calling?
