Titus 2:6-10 (The Christian in Business)

Yesterday I had a very important meeting, sharing the vision and future for a company that wants to use some of my services.

I don’t know about you, but before a meeting like this, I keep on reminding myself of facts (I can’t help it!!) and after the meeting I keep on replaying the conversation trying to think where I stuffed up or said something I shouldn’t or make a joke that wasn’t appropriate or timely… it’s actually annoying (both to the people around me and myself)

So this morning, God was kind enough to remind me of what I should be like in all my relationships (business, church and friendships)

From Titus 2:

v6. Encourage those younger than me (in age and ability) to be sensible in their actions and thoughts – be a mentor, essentially, train your replacement

v8. Integrity! A sound message, nothing but the truth! Regardless of the outcome, nothing but the truth! If you stick to that, you might not get the job, and you might lose the opportunity, but your character will be above criticism and no-one will find anything bad to say about you!

v9. Submit to the business/church leadership (and respect them and their choices!) God out them there just like He is placing you according to his plans

v10. Be completely reliable. If you say it will be done, it will be done. Don’t just work to get to the next day or the next meal or the next paycheck.

The thing is that the world has no reason to do this. If we are the result of a big cosmic accident, then why have morals? Why be honest? Why not fudge the numbers to het a better reward? There is no reason not to survive and prosper because you are the most cunning and the most devious… or maybe just a bit more than the guy in the next cubicle.

The end of verse 10 is the reason why:

_*”…so that [YOU] … might make the teaching about God our savior attractive in every way…”*_ Titus 2:10

That is, frankly, the only reason why God will place you in your position. To speak, to create, to be there for one person at the right time.

God will leave the 99 to find the one…

Which also means that he will make you the VP of Sales or the Janitor to get you into position – and that should make me happy, because God will care for me there!
