I want to be a better version of “me” – I want beat the fruits of the spirit, (in bucket loads!) but this evades me…
As I am contemplating changes in my life, And the complications it brings, I reach Titus 1:5-9 where Paul reminds Titus that his job was to put elders in the church, and what an elder should look like.
At first I thought… “Lucky I am not an elder…” but God nudged me just a little bit. Is where I am headed in business not exactly this?!
So rereading the few verses with a bit more intent:
The more I look at it, the more it looks like the Fruits of the Spirit for Business
– we should be faithful in all things. Starting at home, with our spouse and children will be a good indicator of where we will stand and fall in business.
– if we are stubborn or irritable, working with people is going to be tough
– addiction of any kind (alcohol, drugs, gambling, the internet, porn, food, coffee, etc, etc!) are not good… but are we or do we get addicted to our jobs? I do. It’s a fear I have now, as I am sitting here… the dopamine rush of acceptance and a job well done. The high of a pat on the back.
– being a bully? We do it because it’s expected of us in business…
– being greedy… I don’t think it’s even on our radar… it’s called a “fiduciary responsibility” to our investors and bankers. Like most things, apparently, if we rename it, it’s not a sin
“Instead, they should show hospitality, love what is good, and be reasonable, ethical, godly, and self-controlled. “ verse 8
These are all attributes our bosses want and what we want in the people working under us… I am struggling to translate that into business vs business talk… when the coach down the street entices my student to leave? Or the client gets a better offer elsewhere…
I definitely need to spend more time thinking about this…
The last verse is awesome… it’s spoken for every Christian, every church… but it’s true for business as well
Stick to your business, Stick to your message, Stick to your reason… if you don’t, you are on shaky ground…
